Mag. Mathias Tötzl, BA, Psychotherapist in Training under Supervision, Systemic Therapy
I am pleased to welcome you to the website of my psychotherapy practice. Here you will find information about me, my approach, and the services I offer. If you are seeking support during a difficult phase of life, experiencing psychological distress, or looking for personal development, psychotherapy can be helpful.
I look forward to getting to know you in an initial consultation.
My name is Mathias Tötzl. I was born in 1985, I am married, and a father of two sons. I originally come from Upper Austria. After my civilian service, I came to Vienna to study and have remained here since. After completing my studies (Nursing Science and Political Science), I worked for several years in communications and have since been working as a specialist consultant in the health sector for the City of Vienna. My desire to work directly with people led me to pursue training in psychotherapy. I am completing my training at the Training Institute for Systemic Family Therapy (LASF - Lehranstalt für Systemische Familientherapie).
As part of my training, I have already gained experience at pro mente Trainingshilfe, in a Viennese nursing home, at the LASF therapy outpatient clinic, in the General Psychiatric Ward of the Klinik Landstraße and in grief counseling at Hospiz Rennweg.
In my therapeutic work, it is important to me to create a safe space where my clients can develop new perspectives on problems and challenges. It is a particular concern of mine to explore and strengthen the abilities and resources that every client brings. I prefer to work in a solution-focused manner to achieve an improvement in the circumstances that led you to me, in as few sessions as possible, but as many as necessary.
A little preview of what my practice looks like.
I offer psychotherapy and counseling in individual, couple, family, and group settings in German and English for various areas, including:

Status "In Training under Supervision"
My work is regularly supervised by experienced teaching therapists to ensure high quality of treatment. All information is handled anonymously.
Co-therapy sessions
I also offer co-therapy sessions with my colleague Sabine Grasmuk-Siegl (www.praxis-grasmuksiegl.at). This is most often requested in couples therapy when clients value a mix of female and male therapeutic input, but it is also possible in other cases (e.g. family issues).
Systemic family therapy is a globally recognized and proven effective form of psychotherapy. It is based on a resource- and solution-oriented approach that views people within their social context. Despite its name, it is suitable not only for families but also for individuals, couples, and groups.
The systemic approach assumes that psychological issues are not solely due to individual factors but are also influenced by the relationships and interactions within the system in which a person lives.
Within a systemic therapy session, the focus is often on collaboratively developing new perspectives on existing difficulties with the clients or the system (e.g., family, couple). Together, you will look for solutions and resources that are often already present within the system and can be activated or strengthened.
Therapy typically involves illuminating the perspectives of various parties to gain a more comprehensive picture of the interactions. Clients are supported in seeing situations in a new light and discovering alternative ways of acting.
